Name: Dr Somnath Kumar MBBS, DMRD, MRCP
Job title: Consultant Cardiologist
I joined Lancashire Teaching Hospitals in August 2006 and work three days at Chorley, one day at Preston and one day at Blackpool. I am trained in the management of all types of cardiac disorders including arrhythmias, valve disease, coronary artery disease and heart failure.
I trained for five years at Wythenshawe Hospital and did my post-graduate research at the University of Liverpool and Blackpool Victoria Hospital.
My super-specialist training is in coronary intervention and stent implantation. I perform coronary angiography, permanent pacemaker implantation, echocardiography and implant special diagnostic devices in patients with syncope. I have a special interest in the peri-operative management of cardiac patients undergoing non-cardiac surgery.
I also regularly teach medical students, junior colleagues and go out to general practices to update family physicians about new developments in cardiology. I keep abreast of cutting edge technology through extensive reading and attending international conferences and am very passionate about delivering state-of–the-art cardiology services.
